Sussexes Accuse Palace of Delaying Passports Amid Growing Rift
King Charles has denied claims that he interfered in passport arrangements for Harry and Meghan’s children, amid renewed tensions between the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been working to secure dual-national passports for Archie and Lilibet, allowing them to decide in adulthood whether they wish to engage with royal life or remain private citizens.
A friend of the couple told The Guardian, “When they grow older, they can decide for themselves whether they want to become working royals or stay out of public life.”
But the effort has sparked friction after the Sussexes allegedly blamed the King for delays in the process. Buckingham Palace was quick to reject the accusation, calling it both “incredulous” and “bemusing.”
“King Charles, battling cancer and overseeing the monarchy, has far more pressing matters than meddling in passport applications,” the Palace stated firmly.
Behind the scenes, the monarch is reportedly troubled by the uncertainty surrounding his grandchildren’s roles, particularly in light of Harry and Meghan’s highly public departure from royal life.
A palace insider told The Daily Mail that the King sees their future “far more aligned with Hollywood than Windsor,” citing the Sussexes’ media ventures and ongoing criticism of the Royal Family.
Prince William’s reaction, however, has been described as more pointed. A source told The Daily Beast, “William obviously isn’t going to hire Archie and Lilibet. This is just trolling on the part of Harry and Meghan.”
Royal commentator Richard Eden suggested their HRH titles could be quietly dropped in the future as part of William’s long-planned effort to slim down the monarchy once he becomes King.
For now, the royal rift continues to deepen, with even the youngest members of the family drawn into the spotlight.
