The Duchess of Edinburgh made a striking appearance on Friday evening as she joined the Duke of Edinburgh for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2025 at Edinburgh Castle.
Sophie chose the ‘Bamboo Amoeba Dress’ by Spanish label Matelier Design, a flowing chiffon gown in bold red and black with capped sleeves and a high neckline. She paired it with the sleek ‘Black Lunatic Caviar Clutch’ by Sophie Habsburg and a new pair of Penelope Chilvers ‘Gamine 75’ heels, finished with jewelled bows. A tailored black blazer draped across her shoulders and a smooth low bun completed the refined look.

Celebrity stylist Oriona Robb praised the ensemble as an ideal choice for the occasion. “At Edinburgh Castle, Duchess Sophie’s look felt perfectly attuned to the spirit of the Tattoo,” Robb explained. “The printed dress added warmth and movement, while the velvet jacket echoed the richness of military regalia and the grandeur of the setting. The block-heeled shoes and understated clutch kept the outfit practical without losing elegance.”
Red is a colour Sophie wears rarely, but it always makes an impression. She last embraced the shade in 2022, during the Platinum Jubilee Royal Tour of the Caribbean, when she stunned at a reception in Saint Lucia while still the Countess of Wessex.
