Monarch praises base’s role in UK defense and global cooperation
King Charles visited RAF Lossiemouth in northern Scotland today to celebrate the reformation of Number 42 (Torpedo Bomber) Squadron, commending the Royal Air Force for its “world-leading training” that strengthens global peace and security.
The King attended the Stand-Up Parade, watched a ceremonial inspection and aerial display, and presented the squadron with its new Standard. RAF Lossiemouth is one of the UK's two quick reaction alert stations, responsible for defending national airspace and supporting allied operations.
In his speech, the King called the base “the beating heart of the United Kingdom’s long-range maritime patrol aircraft capability” and noted its location near his former school, Gordonstoun. He praised the personnel’s “dedication, skill and professionalism,” describing them as “an immense credit to the Royal Air Force and to the United Kingdom.”
He concluded by highlighting the squadron's proud history and expressing confidence that it would continue to uphold the highest standards in the years ahead.
