Monarch interrupts holiday with Queen Camilla to honour Ukraine on Independence Day
King Charles has been commended for a thoughtful gesture after pausing his summer holiday at Balmoral to send a personal message to Ukraine.
The monarch, joined in Scotland by Queen Camilla, wrote to President Volodymyr Zelensky to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day. In his letter, Charles praised the “courage and resilience” of the Ukrainian people amid the ongoing war.
Zelensky later shared the King’s words on social media, expressing gratitude for the support. “I am grateful to His Majesty King Charles III for his cordial wishes to all Ukrainians on our Independence Day,” he wrote. “His Majesty’s kind words are a true inspiration for our people during the difficult time of war.”
The Ukrainian leader went on to thank the United Kingdom for its continued backing, noting the importance of defending freedom and pursuing “a lasting peace in Ukraine and throughout Europe.”
Charles’s message came as he spent time at Balmoral with family members, including his brother Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, despite the controversies surrounding them.
