PR expert says the Sussexes would benefit from separate identities
Meghan Markle and Harry may have built their image as a couple, but a PR expert argues that this is also their biggest weakness.
Edward Coram-James, CEO of Go Up, told Express.co.uk that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should separate their professional brands if they want to escape the “royal drama narrative.” While Harry has focused on military and charitable causes, and Meghan has pursued Hollywood and lifestyle projects, their joint identity, he said, is “the problem.”
“When they are together, it’s a conflict of interest that confuses the public and makes them an easy target for criticism,” Coram-James explained. By keeping their professional paths distinct, he argued, the couple could build clearer storylines and stronger individual legacies.
The comments come as the Sussexes recently signed a new Netflix deal. Unlike their 2020 $100 million contract, the new arrangement is said to be a scaled-back “first-look” deal, giving the streaming giant priority on their future projects.
Their earlier partnership with Netflix delivered notable successes, including the record-breaking docuseries Harry & Meghan and Meghan’s new cooking show With Love, Meghan. Whether their latest agreement will allow them to work more independently remains to be seen.
