Duchess accused of abrasive behaviour towards staff and diplomats
Meghan Markle’s journey has never been short of drama. From her fractured relationship with her father to a public divorce and later her role as a working royal, she often found herself struggling with the rigid structures of monarchy life.
Less than two years after their celebrated wedding, Meghan and Harry stepped away from royal duties and began a new chapter in California. Since then, they have remained in the headlines through candid interviews, Harry’s memoir Spare, and their ongoing tensions with the royal family.
Now, a royal author has revisited what life was like behind the scenes when the Sussexes were still working royals. In his book Revenge, Tom Bower paints a picture of unhappy staff and strained relations, claiming Meghan displayed “abrasive behaviour” during high-profile tours.
Recalling the couple’s visit to Sydney, Australia, Bower writes that while the public welcome was overwhelmingly warm, things were different behind closed doors. Meghan was allegedly short with her four female staff members as well as with local British diplomats. One report even suggested she threw a cup of tea in frustration, with her temper said to have been fuelled in part by Harry.
Other accounts have also claimed the Duchess viewed the royals as “behaving like babies,” adding another layer to the portrait of discord during her time in the royal fold.
