PR expert offers advice to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex amid criticism
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been told to embrace authenticity if they want their comeback to last.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back into the spotlight in 2025, with Meghan announcing several new projects, including her TV series With Love, Meghan, her lifestyle brand As Ever, and her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder. While she moved forward with business ventures, Harry focused on his charity work, marking a professional shift away from joint projects.
Despite their efforts, the couple have struggled to connect with the public, particularly in Britain. PR expert Renae Smith suggested that their approach feels too tailored for existing fans rather than wider audiences.
“If they want to avoid future flops, they need to get out of their bubble. Right now, their projects feel like they’re made for fans only,” Smith told the Express. He added that Harry could benefit from focusing on humanitarian work, but it must come from a genuine place.
The expert also recalled a past moment during the California fires when Meghan sent band merchandise to a young victim and posted about it online, calling the gesture “cringe.”
According to Smith, the couple’s best chance at reconnecting with the public lies in showing their authentic selves rather than appearing overly staged.
