Prince William and Catherine make final call on Invictus invite

Prince Harry faces setback as William and Catherine decline reunion at Birmingham Games

Prince Harry’s hopes of using the Invictus Games as a bridge to heal family tensions have been dealt a blow. Despite his olive branch, William and Catherine are said to have ruled out attending the Birmingham edition of the competition this summer.

The Duke of Sussex, who has recently spoken about wanting peace with the royals, reportedly extended invitations to King Charles and other family members for the July event. But according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the Prince and Princess of Wales are not expected to accept.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Fitzwilliams said, “Prince William and Catherine are not thought likely to attend. I strongly doubt Princess Anne will attend. However, there is a long time to go and anything could happen.”

While the monarch’s attendance also remains uncertain, Fitzwilliams suggested King Charles may instead ask his daughters to represent him if he is unable to go. “We do know that if he does not, he is certain to be represented. He might ask his daughters, both of whom get on with the Sussexes, to represent him,” he explained.

The Games, set for July 10–17 at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, are Harry’s signature project and a source of deep pride. Fitzwilliams warned that if King Charles steps back from appearing in person, it may be seen publicly as a snub.
