Prince William Stands Firm as King Charles Welcomes Harry Back

Future King cautious while father opens door to reconciliation

Prince William has made it clear he has no plans to reconcile with his brother, even as King Charles appears ready to welcome Harry for a private meeting during his return to the UK.

The Duke of Sussex is scheduled to attend the WellChild Awards in London on September 8, marking his first visit to Britain since losing his legal bid over UK security arrangements. Reports suggest that King Charles, who is continuing his cancer treatment, intends to have a face-to-face conversation with his son while both are in the country.

Harry last saw his father in February, shortly after the King’s diagnosis was made public. A source told The Mirror that “after 20 months apart, and with the King continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step.” Palace aides are said to be hopeful that the meeting will open the door to more dialogue, provided Harry respects “privacy and dignity.”

But when it comes to William, the outlook is far less hopeful. An insider revealed that the Prince of Wales has ruled out speaking to his brother, fearing that private conversations could once again find their way into the headlines. “Any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand,” the source said, adding that William worries about the Royal Family being dragged into publicity every time a new project or contract is promoted.

According to reports, William and other senior royals would only reconsider if Harry and Meghan Markle were able to regain their trust. For now, while King Charles appears to be reaching out to his youngest son, the rift between the two brothers remains as deep as ever.
