New poll crowns future king the nation's favorite after years behind his wife
For more than a decade, Catherine has been the most admired member of the royal family. Since her 2011 marriage to William, she has been celebrated for her warmth, poise, and ability to connect with people, often drawing comparisons to the late Princess Diana.
She has long topped royal popularity polls, with William close behind. But a new survey has changed the order. William has edged past his wife to claim the title of Britain's most liked royal, earning an impressive 74% approval rating from the public.
The poll also delivered good news for the monarchy as a whole: 59% of people believe the royal family benefits the country, 54% think they are good value for money, and nearly half hold a positive overall view.
William's bond with the public has been built over decades. As a young boy, the affection for Princess Diana helped win hearts on her behalf. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, his charm and good looks had made him an international figure.
That connection only strengthened after his marriage to Catherine, which cemented his image as both a devoted husband and a modern royal.
Last year, however, proved a turning point. While Catherine faced illness, William shouldered more royal duties alone, showing a personal and vulnerable side rarely seen. That display of resilience and humanity may have helped him finally overtake his wife in the latest poll.
