Princess Catherine Sends Message of Support as World Cup Challenge Approaches

The Princess of Wales pauses family holiday to rally behind England’s Red Roses

Princess Catherine has shared a personal message of encouragement for England’s Red Roses as they prepare to begin their Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign against the United States tonight.

Writing on Kensington Palace’s social media accounts shortly before kick-off in Sunderland on Friday, August 22, the Princess, who serves as Patron of English Rugby, said:

“Wishing the Red Roses the very best as they kick off their Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign tonight. I look forward to cheering you on and seeing the team rise to the challenge on home soil!”

As always, she signed the message with a simple “C.”

The 43-year-old future queen has been a dedicated supporter of rugby since taking on the role of Patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League in 2022, regularly attending matches and cheering on England’s teams at major fixtures.

Tonight’s opener carries extra weight. The U.S. defeated England in the very first Women’s Rugby World Cup final back in 1991, but history since then has largely belonged to the Red Roses. With home advantage and a dominant record, England enter the tournament as strong favourites.
