Grant Harrold questions Duke’s recollections but admits struggles may have been hidden
Prince Harry’s explosive memoir and past interviews have long stirred tensions within the royal family, particularly his claims about life inside the palace. After Harry and Meghan’s televised interview, the late Queen famously remarked that “recollections may vary,” a phrase that continues to echo through the debate.
Now, King Charles’ former butler, Grant Harrold, has weighed in. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Harrold revealed he was shocked by Harry’s version of events, especially those involving Charles’ marriage to Camilla.
“You think we were in two different households,” he said. “I talked about this happy family with his stepmother and everything. He’s saying he didn’t. I never witnessed that.”
Harrold, who served Charles for seven years, described family occasions, including the dinner before Charles and Camilla’s wedding, as “lovely” with “no issues.” He suggested that unhappy people often avoid such events, but Harry had been fully present.
Still, Harrold later admitted Harry’s struggles may have been invisible at the time. “With mental health, you sometimes have no idea someone is unhappy about anything,” he explained. “He could have been pretending.”
The former aide stressed he does not doubt Harry’s honesty but noted there was “no evidence” during his service that the Duke was troubled. “It’s a silent thing, so it’s possible. But nobody knew,” he said.
