Security tightened as royal family gets ready for high-profile U.S. state visit
Windsor Castle is under a major security sweep as King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Catherine prepare to welcome Donald Trump and Melania Trump for a two-day state visit next week.
Specialist police teams with detection dogs were seen inspecting street furniture, public bins, and surrounding grounds near the castle on Friday. The operation is part of an extensive security plan ahead of the visit, which will include formal ceremonies and an overnight stay by the former U.S. President and First Lady at Windsor.
Thames Valley Police confirmed that heightened security checks are underway and will continue in the coming days. Sergeant Amber Timmis, a police search adviser, said the force is experienced in protecting royal residences. “We’re very used to it, very adept in that, and very experienced,” she told reporters, noting that safety is always their top priority.
While she declined to comment on the involvement of other security agencies, she stressed that the approach is thorough and well-established.
Meanwhile, the Stop Trump Coalition has announced plans for large-scale protests in both Windsor and London during the visit, prompting additional police planning.
The trip will begin Wednesday morning with a full ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle, followed by a military display on the East Lawn. The Red Arrows will perform a flypast alongside British and American F-35 fighter jets, highlighting the defence ties between the two nations.
