King Charles Issues First Statement After Harry’s Surprise Palace Visit

Buckingham Palace highlights Queen Camilla’s engagement at Chatsworth House

Buckingham Palace has released its first statement following Harry’s unexpected stop at Kensington Palace.

On September 20, the royal family’s official Instagram account shared an update on Queen Camilla, who has recently resumed engagements after a brief pause due to health concerns. The post included a cheerful video from her appearance at the Queen’s Reading Room Festival at Chatsworth House.

The statement opened with the words: “It is a truth universally acknowledged that books make life better.” It continued:

“Yesterday, The Queen attended @TheQueensReadingRoom festival at Chatsworth House. The festival, now in its third year, coincides with the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth.

The Queen’s Reading Room, launched by Her Majesty in 2023, is a charity celebrating and promoting the transformative power of books in the UK and beyond.”

During the event, Camilla joined discussions on the impact of reading on mental health, including conversations with people supported by domestic violence charity The Elm Foundation. She also met literary figures attending the festival.

The Palace’s update came shortly after Hello! Magazine reported that Harry privately visited Kensington Palace during his recent trip to London. According to the outlet, the Duke of Sussex went there to “personally pay his respects and offer condolences” following the death of the Duchess of Kent.
