Duchess of Sussex shares heartfelt tribute to Doria Ragland
Meghan Markle marked her mother Doria Ragland’s 69th birthday with a touching tribute that delighted fans.
The Duchess of Sussex posted a boomerang video on Instagram Stories showing her giving her mom a kiss on the cheek, decorated with pink hearts and the caption: “Happy Birthday to my beautiful mom!” The clip, set to Stevie Wonder’s classic “Happy Birthday,” highlighted the warmth of their relationship.
Meghan has often spoken about the special bond she shares with her mother, describing her as a steady source of support. Her close friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin once said, “Meghan draws a lot of strength from her mother. Doria is classy, chic and confident, but not unapproachable. I definitely feel Meghan gets a lot of that from her.”
Over the years, Doria has been by Meghan’s side at important milestones, including the royal wedding in 2018 and the birth of Archie in 2019. She has also been a frequent visitor to the couple’s home, both in the UK and in California.
Meghan has shared that her mother has affectionately called her “Flower” since childhood, a nickname she once revealed on her former lifestyle blog The Tig. Other nicknames included “Meg,” “MM,” and “M&M.”
Their bond was also on display in the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan. Doria recalled the moment Meghan first told her she was dating Harry. “We were on the phone and she says, ‘Mommy, I’m going out with Prince Harry,’ and I start whispering, ‘Oh my God,’” she said. When she finally met him, she remembered thinking he was “handsome,” “really nice,” and had “great manners.”
