Duke of Sussex faces setback ahead of WellChild Awards trip
Meghan Markle has once again cast a shadow over Harry’s plans as he prepares for an important visit to the UK. The Duke of Sussex is scheduled to attend the annual WellChild Awards in London on September 8, a trip that raised hopes he might also see his father, King Charles, for the first time in months following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.
But Meghan’s latest remarks could make that reunion less likely. During an appearance on Bloomberg, she reflected on her time as a working royal, saying she felt she was living an “inauthentic” life and gave the example of being required to wear pantyhose.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express that her comments may have undone any chance of Harry and Charles meeting. “What makes sense is for Prince Harry and the King to meet privately and build up trust. However, there is no chance of that happening,” he said. He added that if a meeting does not take place, much of the blame will fall on the Sussexes.
Adding to the strain are reports that Harry and Meghan may be working on a documentary about Princess Diana. Fitzwilliams called the idea “controversial” and suggested it would only deepen the divide. Still, he admitted that a meeting between Harry and the King remains possible, though unlikely to lead to a breakthrough.
