After stepping back from royal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the UK in 2020 for what they hoped would be a quieter, more private life in the sunny enclave of Montecito, California. They settled into a sprawling mansion with their two children, seeking distance from the pressures of public life.
Since the move, the public has seen only curated glimpses of their world, mainly through their Netflix docuseries and Meghan’s lifestyle projects. Beyond that, little is known about their day-to-day routine.
Local journalist Richard Mineards, who lives nearby, recently described their lifestyle to The Telegraph. He said Harry is often spotted cycling or dining out, while Meghan is seen meeting friends for meals or browsing local markets. According to Mineards, “They live rather splendidly. It couldn’t be a nicer place. We have a lot of very rich and very famous people here, and none of them have a security retinue like the Sussexes.”
Speaking about Meghan, he added, “She cultivates a very controlled image. She pays attention to every appearance, every word, every gesture. And here in Montecito, we appreciate simple people, even famous ones.”
