PR expert warns Duke’s “high-risk” comments could derail reconciliation efforts
Prince Harry may have jeopardised his fragile reconciliation efforts with King Charles III and Prince William after making fresh remarks about his family during a surprise trip to Ukraine.
The Duke of Sussex had recently returned to the UK for a headline-making four-day visit, where he met with his father at Clarence House in what was seen as a major step toward mending their strained relationship.
However, shortly after their meeting, Harry gave an interview to The Guardian in which he denied “airing the family’s dirty laundry” in his memoir Spare, insisting that “the truth needs to come out” before reconciliation can happen.
PR expert Mayah Riaz told The Mirror that Harry’s latest comments could undo recent progress. “By criticising William so openly, Harry raises the stakes,” she said. “The royals either have to respond, which they tend to avoid, or stay silent, which makes the divide look wider.”
Riaz described the move as “high risk,” noting that while Harry’s approach may resonate with the public as honest and transparent, it also creates “more hurdles if he ever wants to rebuild things with his family, at least in public.”
She added that Harry appears to be trying to control the narrative, but this strategy could ultimately make any path back into the royal fold much harder.
