Break-in near Windsor Castle raises safety concerns ahead of Forest Lodge relocation
New details have surfaced about a security breach near the Wales family’s home as they prepare to move into Forest Lodge later this year. The incident happened late at night last October, when two masked intruders broke through gates at Windsor Castle, not far from the family’s current residence, Adelaide Cottage. William and Catherine were at home with their children when the break-in occurred.
While no one was harmed and the intruders only stole farm vehicles, the breach prompted serious concerns about royal security. Thames Valley Police launched an investigation but have now confirmed it has been closed after turning up no leads.
“We’ve conducted an investigation following a number of lines of enquiry,” the force said. “The investigation has now been filed pending any further information coming to light.”
A source described the situation as “worrying and frightening,” noting that police “don’t have any suspects or much of a clue who carried out this break-in.” They added that while unsolved burglaries are not uncommon, “you’d have thought the Windsor Castle estate would be more secure than pretty much anywhere.”
The Wales family is expected to move into Forest Lodge on the Windsor estate before Christmas.
