Future king begins training while the monarchy faces political scrutiny
After celebrating his 12th birthday in July, Prince George has officially started his royal training as the future monarch. But while preparing his son for the crown, Prince William has taken steps to shield him from the pressures that come with the role.
The Prince of Wales has shouldered more responsibilities in the past year as King Charles continues treatment for cancer. Even before stepping into these duties publicly, William was already involved in sensitive royal affairs behind the scenes.
Still, he was careful not to rush his eldest child into the spotlight. “Prince William deliberately postponed the hefty conversation with his son, so Prince George could relax and enjoy school, sports and family life,” royal commentator Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital. She noted that while every leader faces judgment and criticism, few are forced to bear the weight of destiny at such a young age.
The comments come as the monarchy faces renewed controversy. A new book by Valentine Low claims William encouraged the late Queen Elizabeth to intervene during the 2014 Scottish independence referendum. According to the account, William asked the Queen’s private secretary, Sir Christopher Geidt, to press her to make a statement.
Because the royal family is expected to remain neutral on political matters, the revelation has stirred criticism. SNP politicians are now calling for transparency about any attempt to influence the referendum, creating an uncomfortable moment for the Palace.
Despite the turbulence, William is determined to keep George protected until he is old enough to understand his destiny. Fordwich described the young royal as “warmhearted, bright, curious and quietly confident,” adding that William’s approach is helping preserve his son’s innocence while gradually preparing him for the throne.
