Prince William to honour aid workers in London speech

Future King to lead launch of first global humanitarian memorial

Prince William will deliver an important speech in London on 1 October as he pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of humanitarian aid workers.

The Prince of Wales will attend the launch of the first global memorial for aid workers at Gunnersbury Park, where he is expected to praise their dedication and compassion in helping communities in need.

The memorial, created by British artist Michael Landy CBE RA with the Humanitarian Memorial Committee, features a circle of 15 human-scale figures. Gaps between the figures allow visitors to join hands and “complete the circle,” symbolising solidarity and shared humanity.

William will deliver a speech at the event before viewing the memorial. He will also meet with representatives to hear about the challenges facing aid workers in Ukraine, Sudan and the Middle East, as well as the colleagues they have lost in service.

Formed in 2015, the Humanitarian Memorial Committee has worked to create a lasting tribute to those who gave their lives while helping others, while also recognising those who continue to serve in dangerous conditions.
