King Charles reportedly aims to shield his nieces as scrutiny grows over their father’s Royal Lodge finances.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are reportedly feeling the strain of renewed controversy surrounding their father, Prince Andrew. A source close to the Royal Family says the sisters are being treated unfairly amid the latest scrutiny of the Duke of York’s finances.
The King’s younger brother recently announced he would give up all his royal titles and honours following mounting pressure linked to his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Since then, public attention has shifted toward his daughters, who have faced criticism for maintaining a lavish lifestyle despite distancing themselves from their father’s troubles.
According to reports, Andrew has been living at Royal Lodge for more than twenty years without paying rent. It’s alleged he has only covered minimal expenses, such as water bills, which he’s reportedly paid “from time to time.” These bills are said to total roughly £743 a year — about £14,860 across his long residency at the 30-room Windsor home.
The revelation has prompted MPs from the Commons Treasury Committee and the Public Accounts Committee to consider investigating how the Crown Estate has managed the Royal Lodge lease.
Despite the controversy, insiders suggest that King Charles remains keen to protect his nieces. “Bea and Eugenie should be treated very differently from their parents,” one source told the Mail. “They’re lovely women who genuinely want to make a positive contribution to society.”
Another insider added that the King would never approve any decision that could negatively affect them, emphasising his ongoing support for the young royals as they navigate the fallout from their father’s scandals.
