Body language expert Judi James told The Mail that Catherine’s subtle movement seemed intentional, describing it as her way of acting as “the Firm’s protective huntress.” According to James, Catherine appeared to keep her focus on maintaining composure and avoiding any unnecessary attention toward Ferguson.
The gathering on September 16 came just before renewed controversy surrounding Ferguson’s 2011 correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein resurfaced. In the message, she referred to Epstein as her “supreme friend,” prompting backlash and her removal as patron from several charities. Ferguson later claimed she wrote the email to protect her daughters following a distressing call with Epstein.
Amid the growing criticism, Andrew and Ferguson announced on October 17 that they had relinquished their Duke and Duchess of York titles. James added that the pair often seem to “take advantage of family appearances,” using them to maintain a sense of royal connection despite their diminished status.
