Future Queen Catherine Faces Criticism Over Mental Health Message

Royal experts call her letter “bold” but warn it could be seen as a lecture.

Catherine, the future Queen, has drawn mixed reactions after sharing a heartfelt message about mental health. The mother-of-three joined her husband, the Prince of Wales, in marking World Mental Health Day by encouraging people to disconnect from excessive screen time and reconnect with those around them.

In a letter titled The Power of Human Connection in a Distracted World, co-written with Professor Robert Waldinger from Harvard Medical School, Catherine reflected on how social media has made many young people feel isolated. She urged adults to be present and engaged with their loved ones.

However, not everyone agreed with her approach. Royal correspondent Hannah Furness said on Hello! Magazine’s A Right Royal Podcast that while the letter was “moving,” it might attract criticism. “I hope it didn’t come across as too much of a lecture, because she has opened herself up to some very obvious criticism,” she said.

Fellow royal expert Emily Nash described Catherine’s message as a “bold move,” noting that it’s unusual for the Princess of Wales to make such a direct public appeal.
