King Charles and Prince William unite for key royal mission

The royal father and son strengthen their shared vision for environmental leadership and the future of the monarchy.

King Charles and Prince William have joined forces on an important royal mission, putting aside rumours of tension to focus on their shared environmental goals. The Prince of Wales recently announced the Earthshot Prize 2025 finalists in a heartfelt video message, underscoring his long-standing commitment to protecting the planet—a cause that has also defined much of King Charles’s public life.

In the video, William expressed his pride in the project’s progress. “I’m deeply proud of what The Earthshot Prize has achieved in its first five years,” he said. “I’m enormously excited for the next five. Together, we’re moving towards achieving vital global goals that will improve and secure lives and livelihoods for all of us.”

Jason Knauf, chief executive of The Earthshot Prize and a close aide to William, told Sky News that the initiative reflects the “sort of leader [William] wants to be.” He added that the future King “cares deeply about tradition and his family’s legacy of service,” while also bringing a modern approach to royal duties by recognising the work of others.

King Charles has similarly dedicated decades to environmental advocacy, long before such issues became mainstream. As Knauf noted, “That’s what his father’s been doing—updating the tradition for the generation they serve.”

Together, the monarch and his heir appear more aligned than ever, united by a shared purpose to preserve the planet and modernise the royal legacy for future generations.
