The Duke of Sussex loses another symbolic role as royal expert says Mike Tindall now fills the “fun uncle” space Harry once held in the Wales household.
Prince Harry has reportedly been replaced in one of his most cherished informal roles following his “men in grey suits” comments. Despite ongoing peace efforts with King Charles, the Duke of Sussex has been told that his former place as the royal family’s “fun uncle” is no longer his.
After stepping down as a working royal with Meghan Markle in 2020, Prince Harry was known for bringing warmth and humour to official events. His playful nature made him especially close to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ children. However, the growing distance between Harry and his family means those bonds have faded.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond told Fabulous magazine that Mike Tindall has stepped into that space. “George’s original ‘fun uncle’ and adult playmate did that infamous bolt to the US, leaving a huge Harry-shaped gap in the young boy’s life that Mike has more than filled,” she said. Bond added, “Mike is the fun uncle everyone needs, but for Prince George, whose life will always be about duty and responsibility, Mike’s influence is invaluable.”
Her comments have resurfaced amid renewed debate over Harry’s claims about the Palace “men in grey suits,” which he suggested were blocking reconciliation between him and his father.
