Monarch sends heartfelt wishes to mark Sight for Wight’s 50th anniversary
King Charles has extended his support to a long-standing charity, sending warm congratulations to Sight for Wight as it celebrated 50 years of service to visually impaired Islanders.
The organisation, founded by Geoffrey Smith from Niton, began as a way to make the Isle of Wight County Press accessible to those unable to read it. Over the past five decades, the charity has grown into a vital source of information and support for the visually impaired community and their families.
Chief Executive JD Viette expressed gratitude to the charity’s staff and volunteers, acknowledging their dedication in reaching this major milestone.
In honour of the occasion, a message from King Charles was sent through his secretary, conveying “heartfelt, warmest good wishes to all those who have contributed to this publication.”
The King’s kind gesture came at a time when the royal family continues to face internal challenges, including the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s alleged email scandal. Despite the ongoing tensions, the monarch’s message stood out as a reminder of his continued commitment to charitable causes and public service.
