King Charles Refuses to Back Harry’s Renewed Plea for Police Protection

The Duke of Sussex’s latest request for UK security sparks tension as the King declines to intervene.

King Charles has reportedly taken a firm stance as Harry renews his push for police protection in the UK. The Duke of Sussex recently revived his appeal just weeks after reuniting with his father following nearly two years of silence.

Harry lost his security case against the Home Office in May, a decision that left him “devastated.” During a BBC interview, he revealed that his father had not been speaking to him amid the legal dispute. The same interview saw Harry publicly call for reconciliation, which eventually led to their meeting at Clarence House last month.

However, that fragile progress may now be at risk. According to The Times, the King has decided not to intervene in his son’s security battle. “The King cannot and will not lobby—that’s inappropriate,” a royal insider said. “His representatives cannot advocate for policy outcomes, especially concerning his own family.”

The source added that the relationship between the King and his younger son is “back to where we were” and that Harry’s latest request “is not going to help matters.” They explained that the royal household’s representative on the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), overseen by the Home Office, “is not there to advocate for any member of the royal family” but acts purely as a liaison.

The update follows reports that Harry sent a letter to the new Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, requesting a fresh risk assessment. He raised concerns after a suspected stalker allegedly breached his security and entered the “secure zone” twice during his recent visit to the UK.
