King Charles Reportedly ‘Upset’ After Prince William’s Honest Remarks About His Parents’ Divorce

The monarch is said to be taken aback by William’s candid comments about his childhood and family life

King Charles is said to be “slightly upset” following Prince William’s emotional reflections on his parents’ failed marriage. The Prince of Wales recently spoke candidly about the impact of Charles and Diana’s divorce during an interview with actor Eugene Levy on The Reluctant Traveler.

Reflecting on his upbringing, William shared, “My parents got divorced at 8, so that lasted a short period of time. But you take that and you learn from it, and you try and make sure you don’t make the same mistakes as your parents.”

The future King emphasised the importance of creating a stable, loving environment for his family, saying he always prioritises his wife Catherine and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. “Children deserve a happy, healthy, stable home,” he added. “Otherwise, you’re setting them up for a bit of a hard time and a fall.”

While William didn’t directly reference Queen Camilla, his remarks have been interpreted by some royal observers as a subtle nod to her role in the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage.

Royal expert Phil Dampier told Express.co.uk that the King may not have received his son’s comments well. “The King may be slightly taken aback by the frankness with which William has spoken,” Dampier said. “He may be slightly upset that William said he made mistakes — but they are undeniable. We all know his first marriage didn’t work, and sadly, there are always consequences from that.”

Dampier also recalled past reports that William, as a child, would “push tissues under the door when he heard his mother crying as her marriage broke up,” suggesting that those painful memories have left lasting emotional scars.

While the King and the Prince of Wales continue to share a close working relationship, these deeply personal reflections have reportedly stirred old wounds — reminding both men of a chapter in royal history that still echoes through the family today.
