Monarch urged to remove Duke from key royal roles as pressure builds over ongoing scandals
King Charles is reportedly preparing to take decisive action against the Duke of York as calls grow for him to be stripped of his remaining royal privileges. Despite stepping back from official duties, Andrew still holds two prominent positions within the monarchy, which critics say undermine the King’s efforts to modernise and protect the royal family’s image.
The Duke has faced years of public scrutiny over his association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and more recently, his alleged links to a Chinese spy. The backlash has intensified after an email from his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, to Epstein resurfaced, prompting fresh outrage and renewed demands to bar the Yorks from royal life.
According to reports, King Charles has already instructed Andrew and Sarah Ferguson to avoid public royal gatherings, including the upcoming Christmas celebrations at Sandringham. The decision signals the monarch’s determination to distance the royal family from further controversy.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond told The Mirror that the King is under mounting pressure to take even stronger action. “He’s not a vindictive man, but the disgrace that both Andrew and Fergie have brought on the royal family time and again must be very hard to bear,” she said.
Bond added that their “greed tarnishes the reputation of the monarchy” and warned that it “has to be stopped.” She continued, “The public would welcome some gesture of punishment, such as stripping Andrew of his place as a Knight of the Garter and also as a Counsellor of State.”
