Monarch puts feud rumours to rest following Balmoral meeting

King Charles has made a clear show of support for Prince William by entrusting him with a major royal responsibility, easing recent speculation of a rift between the monarch and his eldest son.

Reports had hinted at disagreements between the King and the Prince of Wales over how to manage sensitive family matters, including concerns involving Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. However, the Palace’s latest move suggests unity, not division, within the royal ranks.

Following a private one-on-one meeting at Balmoral last month, the King authorised William to conduct an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. Acting under his father’s direction, the Prince of Wales bestowed a knighthood on acclaimed actor Gary Oldman, officially making him Sir Gary Oldman.

The Prince and Princess of Wales later extended their congratulations to the Harry Potter and Batman star. Oldman spoke warmly about his interaction with William, revealing the royal’s admiration for his work. “He said he was very happy that I was here today and that it was him who had the opportunity to present me with the knighthood. He’s a fan, yeah,” the actor shared, noting that William praised his roles in Slow Horses, The Fifth Element, and Darkest Hour.

Currently, only King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Anne are authorised to conduct investiture ceremonies — a clear indication of the trust the King places in his son as he continues his gradual preparation for the throne.
