Duke of Sussex stresses he wants a relationship with his father
Harry has rejected reports about the tone of his private reunion with King Charles, insisting recent claims are “categorically false.”
The Duke of Sussex met his father for tea at Clarence House, their first face-to-face meeting in more than 18 months. The encounter, lasting just under an hour, sparked headlines across the UK. Some outlets framed it as the beginning of a reconciliation, while others dismissed it as a “tone-deaf” PR move.
In a rare statement, Harry’s spokesperson hit back at speculation, saying:
“Recent reporting of The Duke’s view of the tone of the meeting is categorically false. The quotes attributed to him are pure invention fed, one can only assume, by sources intent on sabotaging any reconciliation between father and son. Presumably, those same sources have also chosen to disclose that gifts were exchanged.”
The statement acknowledged that a framed photograph was given as a gift during the meeting but confirmed it did not include Harry and Meghan.
While Buckingham Palace confirmed only that the Duke joined the King for a private tea, the meeting was significant, marking the first time the two had seen each other in nearly two years. HELLO! reported that the gathering had been “under consideration” for some time, though both sides chose not to announce it in advance.
Despite the speculation, those close to Harry stress that his hopes remain clear. A source told HELLO!: “He would like a relationship with his father. There’s no doubt about that.”
