Prince Harry Hints at Returning to the UK, Says He Has No Plans to Become a US Citizen

The Duke of Sussex opens up about family ties, fatherhood, and his concerns over online privacy.

In a candid chat with comedian Hasan Minhaj, the Duke of Sussex revealed that he has no plans to pursue US citizenship, suggesting he may one day return to the UK. When asked on Minhaj’s podcast whether he intended to become an American citizen, Harry replied that there were “no immediate plans,” adding that the longer he spends in the US, “the more confusing it gets.”

The Duke’s remarks have fuelled speculation that he might be considering a return to Britain, where his family still resides. Sources say Harry remains eager to mend his strained relationship with his father. During his September visit to the UK, the two are said to have shared a private tea at Clarence House—their first meeting in 19 months. At the time, insiders claimed Harry hoped his father might eventually help the public welcome him back into royal life.

Recent polls from YouGov show Harry ranking 11th in royal popularity between July and September, reflecting a modest but stable position among the public.

In the same interview, Harry also addressed his and Meghan Markle’s decision to keep their children, Archie and Lilibet, out of the public eye. Citing growing concerns about the misuse of personal photos amid the “surge of unregulated AI,” Harry said parents “should be really worried” about posting their children’s pictures online. Still, he added that “parents can do whatever they want,” making it clear that his stance comes from caution, not criticism.

The Duke’s comments offered a rare glimpse into his thinking—both about his family’s digital privacy and the possibility of reconnecting with his roots in the UK.
