A decade after the royal wedding, the beauty mogul clears up who really created the Princess of Wales’ iconic bridal look
When Catherine walked down the aisle of Westminster Abbey in 2011, the world’s eyes were fixed not only on a royal love story but on a timeless fashion moment. From her cascading bouquet to the Cartier Halo Tiara, every detail of her bridal look was flawless — and for years, one question lingered: did she really do her own makeup?
Her soft pink lipstick, subtle eyeliner, fluttering lashes and radiant complexion fuelled long-standing speculation that she had broken royal tradition and handled the look herself. Now, after more than a decade, Bobbi Brown has set the record straight.
Speaking on the Breaking Beauty podcast with hosts Carlene Higgins and Jill Dunn, the beauty icon confirmed that while she didn’t personally do the Princess’s makeup, one of her leading artists, Hannah Martin, did. “I didn’t do her makeup. I wish I did,” Brown said, explaining that Martin was behind the now-famous bridal glow. “Hannah’s become quite a sensation in the U.K.,” she added proudly.
Brown revealed that Martin texted her throughout the morning of the royal wedding, keeping her updated in real time. “Hannah told me to set my alarm and watch. We were texting back and forth, and she’s like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God,’” Brown recalled.
Though the company never publicly claimed credit for the look, Brown did receive a personal note of thanks after the wedding — not directly from Catherine, but from her official letter writer. The message now hangs framed in Brown’s office, a cherished reminder of one of the most memorable beauty moments in royal history.
