Prince William admits his world ‘fell apart’ after Catherine and King Charles’ cancer diagnoses

The Prince of Wales reflects on the emotional toll of facing two family health battles in a new Apple TV+ interview.

Prince William has spoken candidly about one of the hardest periods of his life, revealing how deeply he was affected when both his wife, Catherine, and his father, King Charles, were diagnosed with cancer.

In a new episode of The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy on Apple TV+, the Prince of Wales said he felt as though “the rug had been pulled from under his feet” after receiving the devastating news.

While showing the Schitt’s Creek actor around Windsor Castle, William shared that his family had long been blessed with good health. “We’ve been very lucky; we hadn’t had many illnesses in the family for a very long time,” he said, noting that his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, lived well into their 90s. “They were the vision of fitness and resilience. So we’ve been very lucky as a family.”

However, the prince admitted nothing could have prepared him for the shock that came in 2023 and 2024. “You tell yourself it won’t happen to us, that everything will be fine. You have to stay positive. But when it does happen, it takes you to some pretty dark places.”

The emotional exchange was filmed in February, shortly after Catherine shared that she was in remission following months of preventive chemotherapy. King Charles, meanwhile, continues to receive treatment.
