King Charles III’s brother urged by American lawmakers to cooperate with Congress over Epstein links
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is under renewed scrutiny as US officials call on him to testify before a congressional committee investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes. Members of the US House Oversight Committee are pressing the former duke to share what he knows about the late trafficker, saying it could help both victims and his own reputation.
Democratic congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi told BBC Newsnight that he wants Andrew to appear before Congress and warned that a subpoena could follow if he refuses. “If Andrew wishes to come to the United States or he’s here, then he’s subject to the jurisdiction of the US Congress, and I would expect him to testify,” he said. Krishnamoorthi urged the royal to cooperate voluntarily, adding, “Come clean. Come before the US Congress, voluntarily testify. Don’t wait for a subpoena.”
He stressed that testifying could help restore Andrew’s image: “At the end of the day, we want to know exactly what happened — not just to give justice to the survivors, but to prevent this from ever happening again.”
Congressman Suhas Subramanyam also encouraged Andrew to come forward, telling BBC Radio 4, “I think this would be a great way for him to clear his name and help us continue our pursuit of justice for the victims.” He noted that Andrew’s name had come up repeatedly in victims’ statements and said it was time for him to share what he knows.
Spencer Kuvin, a lawyer representing some of Epstein’s victims, echoed those calls. “We need to hear his story,” he said, adding that Andrew could provide crucial information about others involved in Epstein’s network.
Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles in 2022, reportedly paid Virginia Giuffre several million dollars to settle her civil assault case against him, though he has never testified under oath. Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, has since praised King Charles for taking action against Andrew, insisting that “he needs to be held accountable.”
