Prince George Moves Into Next Stage of Royal Duties After King’s Approval

Palace prepares space for a new working royal as George’s early training begins

The Prince and Princess of Wales have taken on a new responsibility after King Charles approved an important shift within the royal family. While settling into their new home, Forest Lodge, William and Catherine are also preparing their eldest for a slow and steady introduction to royal life.

At 12, George is now following tighter royal protocol as the second in line to the throne. His appearance at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall last week marked a clear step forward. He seemed to be standing in for William, who had only just returned from Brazil.

Royal editor Richard Eden viewed the moment as a sign that the Palace is easing George into future duties, especially as the number of working royals has reduced. He noted that Catherine guided him through the evening, showing how he could manage public engagements in the years ahead.

Eden pointed out that William himself began similar responsibilities at the same age. With Andrew removed from public life and Harry living abroad with Meghan Markle, the family is making room for a new generation. He suggested that George is already being introduced to the rhythm of royal events.

This was not his first appearance at a serious occasion. Earlier this year, he joined a Buckingham Palace reception marking the 70th anniversary of VE Day, where he met veterans and held conversations that showed clear interest and confidence.

Though still young, George appears ready for the gradual training ahead and may one day help fill the gap left by departing members of the royal fold.
