The Prince of Wales avoids a potential controversy while keeping the focus on his environmental mission at the Earthshot Prize Awards.
Prince William demonstrated calm professionalism during a live interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour at the 5th annual Earthshot Prize Awards in Rio de Janeiro on November 5. The Prince of Wales was asked about “change” within the royal family — a question that appeared to reference his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, who was stripped of his Duke of York title over his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Rather than engage with the sensitive topic, William smoothly shifted the conversation toward his global environmental initiative. “I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it,” he said, adding that he wants to “surround [himself] with people who want to make change and do good in the world.”
Amanpour’s question followed William’s earlier remarks about modernising the monarchy, which he discussed during his October appearance on The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy. Her query—framed around recent family developments—could have easily led into uncomfortable territory. Instead, William maintained composure and redirected attention to his work.
