Royal expert says the Princess of Wales has entered a confident new phase as her role alongside William becomes clearer
Catherine is at what one royal expert calls a defining moment, shaping both her own future and that of William as they take on a more central role within the monarchy.
Speaking to People magazine, royal biographer Catherine Mayer said the Princess of Wales has entered a confident phase, one in which she is clearly defining who she is, what she chooses to do, and how much she takes on. The shift comes as Catherine and William settle into a new home and assume greater responsibility as senior royals.
Mayer described the couple as more than just heirs in waiting, saying they are now being presented as the “absolute heart” of the monarchy. She added that Catherine increasingly looks like the public’s idea of a future Queen.
The expert also touched on the handling of Andrew’s status within the royal family, suggesting decisions such as stripping his title and removing him from Royal Lodge reflected William’s influence. According to Mayer, William and Catherine are viewed as a united force when it comes to major decisions.
“She is in this confident phase,” Mayer said, noting that Catherine now has greater control over how she shapes her role. “In that sense, she’s approaching her prime.”
The comments came shortly after Catherine and William made a high profile return to King Charles’ annual Christmas lunch. They missed the gathering last year while Catherine was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, making this year’s appearance particularly significant.
