The Sussexes’ latest Archewell project adapts a bestselling novel and promises a lighthearted turn
New details have emerged about Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming Netflix project, The Wedding Date, offering a clearer picture of what audiences can expect from the couple’s latest collaboration with the streaming giant.
The film is an adaptation of The Wedding Date, a New York Times bestselling novel by Jasmine Guillory, first published in 2018. The project forms part of the Sussexes’ multi year, first look deal with Netflix and will be produced with the support of Tracy Ryerson.
According to Deadline, the story centres on a career driven political strategist whose chance encounter in an elevator leads to posing as a stranger’s date at a wedding. Having long given up on romance, she discovers that love has a habit of appearing when least expected.
This rom com is the latest in a growing slate of Archewell Productions releases. Previous projects include Polo, With Love, Meghan, Heart of Invictus, and the widely discussed Harry & Meghan docuseries.
News of the film sparked strong reactions online. Some social media users were sceptical, questioning the couple’s experience in producing romantic comedies. Others welcomed the move, praising the lighter tone and saying they were pleased to see feel good, slice of life content at a time when it feels badly needed.
Whether met with enthusiasm or doubt, The Wedding Date is already drawing attention as a notable new chapter in Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix journey.
