Duchess of Sussex criticised as sources question sincerity of reported outreach
Meghan Markle is facing fresh criticism over what has been described as a strange and confusing effort to contact her ailing father.
Thomas Markle, the estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex, is recovering in the Philippines after undergoing a leg amputation. Meghan has not had direct contact with him since her wedding to the Duke of Sussex in 2018, but reports now claim she wanted to send a handwritten note to him in hospital.
According to sources, Meghan’s team allegedly tried to track down Thomas by calling medical facilities in the region where he is believed to be receiving treatment. However, one hospital has pushed back on that claim, saying it has no record of any such calls.
An insider told Radar Online that Thomas is a well-known patient at the facility. They said staff would have been aware immediately if Meghan or anyone connected to her had reached out, adding that there was confusion among hospital workers when reports surfaced suggesting the Duchess had contacted her father.
The source also said the hospital would welcome a visit from Meghan, noting that no direct approach had been made.
Meghan’s reported efforts have since been labelled “performative” by critics, with one source saying the situation simply does not add up. They argued that someone with her resources, profile, and global connections would have travelled in person or contacted close relatives who know exactly where Thomas is being treated.
Instead, the source described the situation as a baffling long-distance exercise that has left those close to Thomas confused.
It is understood that other family members are currently by Thomas Markle’s side in hospital. Sources insist that if Meghan genuinely wanted to make contact, she already knows who to call, adding that attempting to reach him indirectly through hospitals comes across as “just strange.”
