Virginia Giuffre’s Family Speaks Out After Police Drop Further Action Against Andrew

Relatives say they are disappointed by the decision and question why investigators did not wait for new evidence

Virginia Giuffre’s family have voiced strong disappointment after London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed it would not reopen its investigation into former Duke of York Andrew.

In a statement, the family said they remain committed to challenging systems they believe protect abusers, particularly at a time when new evidence could still emerge and lead to accountability.

The Met said on Saturday that it had reviewed recent media reports suggesting Andrew asked a close-protection officer to carry out checks on Giuffre in 2011. After reassessing the information, police concluded there was no additional evidence to justify reopening the case and confirmed no further action would be taken.

Reacting to the decision, Giuffre’s relatives said they were “deeply disappointed” the inquiry was dropped without explanation and without any consultation with the family. They also questioned the timing, noting that files linked to Jeffrey Epstein are due to be released by the US Congress under the Epstein Transparency Act.

“We are surprised that the Metropolitan Police didn’t wait to see what further evidence might appear,” the family said. While acknowledging that they had previously praised the UK’s overall handling of the case, they added that, in this instance, they feel justice has not been served.

The statement ended by stressing that Giuffre and other survivors deserve accountability and a system that takes their experiences seriously.

The development comes just days after Andrew appeared in public alongside Sarah Ferguson following the loss of his remaining royal titles.
