Meghan Markle ‘wanted what Catherine had’ after joining the royal family, expert claims

Meghan Markle is said to have felt uneasy about her place in the royal family from the very beginning, with one commentator claiming she was keen to match the status enjoyed by Catherine.

According to Express UK, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has alleged that soon after marrying the Duke of Sussex in 2018, Meghan questioned whether she and her husband could move into more prestigious accommodation at Windsor Castle. The suggestion, Schofield claims, reflected a desire for arrangements similar to those associated with Catherine, now Princess of Wales.

“She was fixated on what Catherine had and wanted something of similar value,” Schofield said, adding that the issue went beyond bricks and mortar. “It wasn’t just about housing. It was about status.”

The expert claimed Meghan approached palace officials after the wedding to explore whether a more grand living situation might be available. Windsor Castle, one of the monarch’s most significant official residences, has traditionally been reserved for the most senior members of the royal family, which made the alleged request particularly sensitive.

These claims feed into the long-running view that Meghan struggled with royal hierarchy and found it difficult to accept that not all roles within the monarchy carry the same weight. Neither Meghan Markle nor the Duke of Sussex have ever publicly commented on reports about housing demands, but palace insider accounts have repeatedly suggested that tensions around status and accommodation added to the couple’s growing frustration with royal life.
