Royal experts say the Prince and Princess of Wales see quiet distance as part of a longer plan for the monarchy’s future.
Catherine and William are said to have no intention of reaching out to Harry with warm birthday wishes, despite ongoing speculation about a possible thaw in relations. According to royal commentators, their continued silence is deliberate and closely tied to how they see their future roles.
Speaking to OK!, royal expert Katie Nicholl explained that the biggest test for the Prince and Princess of Wales is balancing family life with the responsibility of shaping what comes next for the monarchy.
She said their focus is firmly on being hands-on parents while also setting standards that will last beyond their own reign. In her view, they are already thinking long term, not just about becoming king and queen, but about ensuring the monarchy carries on well into the next generation.
These comments come against the backdrop of the ongoing rift with Meghan Markle and Harry, now based in California. Another royal expert, Duncan Larcombe, believes the lack of any public message for Harry’s recent birthday spoke volumes.
He pointed out that senior royals would normally acknowledge such occasions, making the silence impossible to miss. In his words, Catherine’s decision to say nothing sent a clear signal that the next move is not expected from their side.
Larcombe added that neither Catherine nor William can openly address the situation. Instead, they have chosen to stay quiet and let their actions, or lack of them, do the talking. By avoiding public gestures like birthday wishes, he argues, they are refusing to be drawn in and are keeping their distance on their own terms.
