Experts say the Duchess could face a cold and divided reception
Meghan Markle has been warned that returning to Britain could be a risky decision as Prince Harry arrives in the UK for a high-profile court case.
The warning comes as the Duchess is reportedly considering travelling with her husband for an Invictus Games-related event in July, just hours after Harry appeared at London’s High Court on Monday.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal commentator Hilary Fordwich said it is unlikely Meghan would receive a warm welcome if she returns. According to Fordwich, public opinion in Britain remains deeply divided, describing the Duchess as “divisive at best”.
Calling the potential visit a “risky move”, Fordwich added that Meghan is fully aware of the hostile atmosphere she would be stepping into. She also claimed that members of the royal family remain extremely cautious, saying they are “beyond wary”.
Another royal expert, Kinsey Schofield, suggested Meghan would only consider travelling to the UK if she were guaranteed automatic armed security. While King Charles might be open to a reunion, Schofield said Meghan should not expect much warmth from other members of the family.
Schofield also cast doubt on whether the Duchess will attend the event at all. Although Meghan has previously supported Harry during the run-up to the Invictus Games, she said she finds it hard to believe Meghan will appear this time.
“I don’t believe Meghan will travel to the UK for this event,” Schofield said, repeating her view that the Duchess is unlikely to be present.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry arrived at the High Court on Monday for the start of a closely watched trial expected to last up to nine weeks. The case centres on claims that a British newspaper group unlawfully gathered private information about him.
