Prince William arrived in Bristol on Thursday to visit Isambard-AI, the UK’s most powerful supercomputer, and to meet a sustainable technology firm working to tackle microplastic pollution.
The Prince of Wales began his trip at Matter, a Bristol-based company shortlisted as a 2025 finalist for the Earthshot Prize. During the visit, staff demonstrated the company’s filtration technology, which is designed to stop microplastics from entering the UK’s waterways.
A short video shared on William’s official social media showed him arriving in the southwest city, which sits along the River Avon.
He later travelled to the University of Bristol to see Isambard-AI in action. The machine can reportedly process in a single second what would take all of humanity around 80 years to compute.
During his visit, William met scientists who are using the supercomputer to explore new treatments for heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer, as well as to improve predictions of extreme weather events.
Bristol is seen as a growing hub for green innovation, aligning closely with the Prince’s long-standing focus on environmental solutions through Earthshot.
