King Charles Congratulates Aamilah Aswat on Historic Horse Racing Win

King Charles III has praised Aamilah Aswat after she made history as the first Black British female jump jockey to win a UK horse race.

In a message shared on the royal family’s official social media channels on Tuesday, the King wrote: “Congratulations Aamilah Aswat on your historic victory.”

According to BBC, the 20 year old secured her first career win aboard 9-1 chance Guchen in a handicap hurdle at Kempton Park. The victory came in just her fourth race, marking a rapid rise in the sport.

Aswat had already broken new ground in November when she became the first Black British female jump jockey to ride competitively in Britain. Reflecting on her win, she said it “felt amazing” and praised Guchen for delivering a strong performance throughout the race.

“He gave me a great feeling all the way round and always felt like he had plenty left,” she said. Aswat rode Guchen for trainers Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls.

Looking ahead, Aswat said her focus remains simple and ambitious. “My dream is to ride as many winners as I can, and to just get on with it,” she said.

She also hopes her achievement encourages others. “The message I hopefully give out to other people is that if you want to do it, you definitely can, and I will be following you every step of the way.”
