Prince William and Harry may never regain their old bond, royal expert says

The relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry is unlikely to return to what it once was, even if the brothers manage to reconcile in the future.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond shared her view in an article for The i Paper, saying that while peace between the brothers would be welcome, a full emotional reunion seems unrealistic.

She said she hopes they can put their differences aside for the sake of the wider family, but that does not mean they will ever be close again.

“I doubt that the brothers can ever be truly close again, but as they grow older, perhaps they can at least have some sort of civil relationship,” she wrote.

Bond also suggested that William does not appear keen on rebuilding a personal bond with Harry, but that moving on from the long-running drama would still be in his best interests. According to her, ongoing conflict takes a toll. “A lifetime of feuding is exhausting and damaging. William’s reign would be so much easier without the baggage of family estrangements,” she warned.

She added that even if Harry were to cut off contact with his relatives completely, his link to the monarchy would never disappear. As the son of King Charles III, the brother of the future king, and the uncle of Prince George, Harry will always remain tied to the institution.

“You can take the man out of the royal family,” Bond said, “but you can’t take the royal family out of the man.”
