Meghan Markle’s reported role in a new project about Princess Diana has sparked fresh tension with Prince William, according to a new claim.
The project, said to be backed by Netflix and timed to mark 30 years since Diana’s death, is reportedly being developed with input from Meghan Markle. A source told Radar Online that William is deeply unhappy about the idea of his mother’s life being revisited for a television series, especially with Meghan involved behind the scenes.
The insider claimed the future king finds the concept emotionally distressing and believes it crosses a personal boundary. In contrast, Prince Harry is said to be firm in his belief that he has the right to tell his mother’s story without seeking his brother’s approval.
“Harry is completely resolute about commemorating his mother and believes, very firmly, that telling her story is something he’s entitled to do as her son,” the source said. They added that he does not see the project as something that needs William’s sign-off and resents the idea of anyone dictating how he remembers her.
What has reportedly angered William most is Meghan’s level of involvement. The source claimed he views her participation as crossing a sensitive line and feels that allowing her to shape or profit from Diana’s legacy is a betrayal of his mother’s memory.
Another insider said Harry has long believed that the story of Princess Diana has been mishandled over the years. He is said to feel that when she needed support and protection most, the royal institution failed her.
Because of that, Harry reportedly does not trust the monarchy to guard her legacy. In his view, the palace lost the moral authority to control how Diana is remembered, which is why he feels her story should be told outside royal walls.
