King Charles Confirms Nigerian State Visit to the UK

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to be welcomed at Windsor Castle

King Charles has confirmed an official State Visit to the UK by Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, with the royal household outlining what to expect from the historic trip.

According to an announcement shared on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account, the King and Queen will host the Nigerian leaders at Windsor Castle this week. The update was presented through a series of slides, offering details about the visit and its significance.

This marks Nigeria’s first State Visit to the UK in more than 37 years. Previous visits took place in 1973, 1981, and 1989, all during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The post also highlighted the King’s longstanding connection with Nigeria. During his time as Prince of Wales, he visited the country on four occasions in 1990, 1999, 2006, and 2018. In 2018, he was joined by the Queen, then known as the Duchess of Cornwall.

Several traditional elements are expected to feature prominently during the visit. These include a carriage procession through Windsor, a Guard of Honour at Windsor Castle, and a State Banquet held in honour of the President and First Lady.

As part of the itinerary, President Tinubu will also lay a wreath at the Tomb of Queen Elizabeth II at St George’s Chapel, paying tribute to the late monarch.

Further updates on the visit are expected to be shared through the Royal Family’s official channels.
